この話は太平洋戦争終戦の数年あとの時代ですが、今とは違い２６歳でも婚期が遅れていると思われていたようです。　それよりも私の関心は英語の表現で "made a show of thinking" が気になります。
"make a show of" と言うIdiomがある事が分かりました。
