BBC Rising tree temperatures could lead to 'severe consequences' 24 Aug 2023 By Rebecca Ricks
「Trees are reaching, and exceeding, temperatures in which they can no longer function, scientists warn.
A new study suggests that "entire canopies could die" if more is not done to stop temperatures from rising.
University of Plymouth academics joined international researchers to analyse leaf temperatures in trees across the Tropics.
"If we don't do more to address climate change, the consequences could be severe," Dr Sophie Fauset said.」
…実際ここ最近の当方の気候もほとんど東南アジア状態で、これで温帯~亜寒帯の植物が生きていけるのか、という感はつよい。
thousandsというから数千、下手すると1万羽ほどのコウテイペンギンが死んだかも―という記事。
BBC Climate change: Thousands of penguins die in Antarctic ice breakup 25 Aug 2023 By Jonathan Amos
つまり子育て中のコロニーの足元の氷床が崩壊、育ち切ってない若鳥たちがおぼれて死んだかも、と。
「A catastrophic die-off of emperor penguin chicks has been observed in the Antarctic, with up to 10,000 young birds estimated to have been killed.
The sea-ice underneath the chicks melted and broke apart before they could develop the waterproof feathers needed to swim in the ocean.
The birds most likely drowned or froze to death.
The event, in late 2022, occurred in the west of the continent in an area fronting on to the Bellingshausen Sea.
It was recorded by satellites.」
衛星写真でチェックしたもの。どうも2021/2022、2022/2023の両シーズンにわたって氷床の具合が悪いようで、これほんとにコウテイペンギンの存亡の危機間近というもののよう。
「The two absolute lowest years have occurred in the past two summer seasons, in 2021/22 and in 2022/23, when the Bellingshausen was almost completely devoid of ice cover.」

BBC Expert forager says early blackberries sign of wider problem 25 Aug 2023
「A forager and author says plants, including blackberries, have fruited early this year because of "climate breakdown".
Robin Harford, of Eat Weeds UK, said he had been asked by people why the fruit was seen a month earlier than usual this year.
Mr Harford said it was because plants, such as blackberries, are entering a survival mode where they seed early in order to try to "mitigate any threat they may be experiencing".」
そりゃまあ、異常なほどの高気温でしたからね、今年。
