Japan's Cultural Code Wordsの互助/互譲の項に出てきた下記の "couched" の意味が分かりません。
These virtual demands for additional concessions are invariably couched in terms of an emotional description of how much the Japanese side would suffer if it abided by the terms of the contract--an institutionalized role-playing tactic that is commonly described as being a naniwabushi.
"couch" で思い浮かべるのは "couch potate" くらいですが、上の "couch" の意味は何でしょう?

"couch" にこんな意味があるとは、英語の道は深いですね。
