Biography
In 1979 I became the first American social scientist allowed to do research in the PRC, where I documented the collapse of the commune system, the massive human rights abuses of the Mao years, and personally witnessed the forcible abortion and sterilization of woman under the newly announced "one-child policy." The experience aroused me out of my academic slumber and led me to embark upon a career of writing and lecturing. The happy result has been a dozen books that are listed here, interspersed with public appearances in all 50 states and several dozen foreign countries.
The books range from A Mother's Ordeal, in which I tell the story of one woman's fight to save her second--and illegal-- the child from the population control police who were determined to abort her, to China Attacks, a techno-thriller a la Tom Clancy of an attempted Chinese invasion of Taiwan. My latest is called the Bully of Asia and deals with China's effort to overturn the current U.S.-led world order and replace it with one dominated by China. In a world bristling with dangers, only one enemy poses a truly mortal challenge to the United States and the peaceful and prosperous world that America guarantees. That enemy is China.
