crass

"l" と　"r" の区別を耳ではほとんどできない私としては read/lead、rid/lid、gross/glossなどは両方の単語の意味を知っていて、使われている文の前後関係（context）で判断している次第です。この方法でもTOEICのリスニングは満点だったので "l" と　"r" の区別を context だけに頼るのもそれほど悪くはない。だいたい、同じ単語で色々な意味を持っている単語、多義語の意味は context で判断するしか手はないし。と言うのが "l" と　"r" の区別ができない私の開き直りです。従って "Slam Dunks and No-Brainers" の中にあった次のような文は耳で聞いたのではお手上げです。
"the crass commercial world occasionally runs from its own progeny"
"crass" を辞書で調べます。

"class" と意味が重なる例は無いようで、むしろ "class" には "crass" と反対に近い excellent, skilful, or stylish の意味もあるので、これで　"crass" と "class" を区別できます（多分）。
