Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is an educator, organizer, and working-class New Yorker who has championed the needs of children, families and working New Yorkers both on the streets and with policymakers.
After growing up experiencing the reality of New York’s rising income inequality, Ocasio-Cortez dedicated her life to education organizing, economic study and activism—eventually mounting a 100% volunteer, no-corporate PAC effort to collect thousands of signatures and trigger the first NY-14 primary election in fourteen years.
In her career, Alexandria has worked on economic policy, organized families and served as an Educational Director for high school youth. When her father passed during the 2008 financial crisis, she also found herself waiting tables and working two jobs to help her family keep a roof over their head. Her hard-working background and humble upbringing have given her the perspective and insight to properly fight for everyday Americans.
Alexandria understands the real needs of working-class New Yorkers and knows the policies necessary to achieve (truly) affordable housing, healthcare, and education for all.
