I am all thumbs

People who can do carpentry work have no choice but to respect them. I yearn for someone who can pull off what I can't do.
There was a time when I bought a single board with a thickness of 10 cm and tried to make a dining table. It's a story of the distant past. After that, the board that was cut only with a chisel reduced the thickness by 1 cm, but it has not become a table.

I eat my meals on a part of the board, but others part are  ”Workbench”. Many books are piled up. It's unlikely to be completed forever.
What is the key to completing a carpentry job? Is it patience? I can watch the production process of people who do various jobs on youtube, but all the perfect jobs of the videos are impossible for amateurs.

By the way, the first  English conversation class of my career in the first yearwas the theme of Do it yourself fun. In the conversation text book, there was a sentence  of "I always hit my fingar insted of the nail". ...I am all thumbs.
