ロックン・ロール・ブライド

　

　ニック・ロウ本人について書いたり話したりすると長くなるので、なんとか１曲に絞ってみます。

この「ロックン・ロール・ブライド」、もともとはロウがかつての同僚デイヴ・エドモンズに提供した曲でしたが、１９８５年にヒューイ・ルイス＆ザ・ニュースのルイスのプロデュースで再レコーディングし、シングル・ヒットしています。

　タイトルでサビのI knew the bride (when she used to rock and roll) は、オレは花嫁が最高にイカしていたころを知ってるんだ、というニュアンスかな。昔の女ともだちの結婚式に参列した（してしまった）男の歌です。まだ好きで、忘れられないのでしょうね。

バック演奏もヒューイ・ルイス＆ザ・ニュースですが、（歌詞を忠実になぞったストーリー仕立ての）ビデオクリップにはしっかりロウのバックバンド、ヒズ・カウボーイ・アウトフィットの面々が出演しています。

　ニック・ロウの書く小粋でカラフルなポップ・チューンがとにかく大好きでした。

この二年後には奇跡の？初来日を果たしています。
