　当時はベトナム戦争中で歌も時代を反映するようになりビートルズは「われわれはうまくやってゆけるさWe Can Work It Out 」と歌い、そしてデビューしたばかりのサイモンとガーファンクルは、　現代人のコミュニケーション断絶を警告する歌The Sounds Of Silence の前説にガーファンクルが
"ability of peole to comunicate with each other and not particulary internationally but especially emotionally so that what you see around you us who are unable to love each other this is called sounds of silence"「人々が 互いに意志疎通する力　とりわけ国際的ということでなく　特に感情的に、いうならばあなたのまわりで見る互いを愛し合うことができないあなたがたやわれわれ、これをサウンド・オブ・サイレンスと呼ぶんだ」と語り、歌の途中「Ｆｏｏｌｓ！バカめら！」と叫ぶ部分が胸をうつ。この時代の歌はもう甘いだけではなくそれぞれに個性をもっていた。それは次代を担う若者たちに大きな影響を与えたのである。
