今年は暑い夏が長かった分、帳尻を合わせるかのように寒さが駆け足でやってきた感じだ。木枯らしにプラタナスの並木の最後の葉が舞い踊っている。本格的な冬はもうすぐそこだ。閉ざされた季節への始まりのせいか、この時期は何とは無く淋しい気持ちになる・・・
「枯葉」と言えばイブ・モンタンの歌ったシャンソンはとても有名で、今ではスタンダードナンバー。だが、ジャズの世界でも人気の曲でもある。多くのアーティストに愛され演奏されているので、自分の好みの曲を探したりするのも楽しい。
ぼくが好きな「枯葉」はビル・エヴァンスのピアノによる軽く明るいもの。この時期は特に通勤途中の憂鬱を癒してくれている。
初冬の憂いを感じさせる演奏と言えば、やはり、オリジナルのイブ・モンタンだろうか。だが、最近、よく耳にするのはエリック・クラプトンもいい。誰もが知っている「枯葉」のメロディを逸脱することなくしっとりと聴かせてくれる。
