1月17日、何となく池上本門寺へ出かけてきたのですが、そこで力道山の像と出会い、戦後史の大立者である児玉誉士夫の命日を知り、その上、明治維新の東征軍本営のあった場所としての池上本門寺を知りました。On 17 January I went out to Ikegami Honmonji Temple, where I met a statue of Rikidōzan.
At the same time, I learnt about the anniversary of the death of Kodama Yoshio, a major figure in post-war history, and I also learnt about Ikegami Honmonji as the location of the headquarters of the Eastern Expeditionary Force during the Meiji Restoration.
まさに東征軍参謀の西郷隆盛が、そこで江戸総攻撃の指揮をとっていたのです。慶応4年3月9日、勝海舟の使者・山岡鉄舟が西郷隆盛と会見し、3月12日には勝海舟が池上本門寺の西郷隆盛を訪れ、江戸無血開城の話し合いに入りました。It was precisely there that Saigo Takamori, the chief of staff of the Eastern Expeditionary Force, took command of the general attack on Edo.
On 9 March 4, Keio 4, Katsu Kaishu's envoy Tesshu Yamaoka met with Saigo Takamori, and on 12 March Katsu Kaishu visited Saigo Takamori at Ikegami Honmonji Temple to discuss a bloodless attack on Edo.
そして、江戸総攻撃の前日（3月14日）、薩摩藩田町蔵屋敷で江戸無血開城が合意に達したとのことです。というわけで、遠く感じた私の職場のある田町と池上本門寺は、縁もゆかりも深く、とっても近い関係にあったことがわかり、なんだか嬉しくなりました。And on the day before the general attack on Edo (14 March), Kaishu Katsu and Takamori Saigo reached an agreement on the bloodless opening of Edo at the Tamachi warehouse of the Satsuma clan.
So I was somewhat pleased to find that Tamachi, where I work, and Ikegami Honmonji, which seemed so far away, had a deep and very close relationship.
