There seem to be more coin laundromats than there were 10 years ago. I felt that way when I lived in Tochigi Prefecture.
When I was in my twenties, I lived in a two-room apartment (with a toilet, but no bath) right next to Futako-Shinchi Station on the Den-en-toshi Line, and used a coin laundry to do my laundry.

さらに、人口が増え続けている都市圏では、居住環境の影響も大きいと考えられますね。核家族化、高齢化、1人暮らし人口の急増による洗濯物の減少、深夜に洗濯機は使いにくい、日当たりの悪い部屋が多いといったことも、コインランドリーの需要を支えているのでしょうね。
