こうして消去法の結果、サウジアラビア・イラクルートが採用された。もちろんこのルートにもリスクはある。しかしサウジアラビアもイラクもほぼ米国の言いなりであり、イスラエルがワシントンの上層部に手を回せば問題はないと判断した。
ただいずれのルートにも大きな問題点が一つあった。戦闘機の航続距離の問題である。どのルートも戦闘機の行動半径1,700キロメートルを超えており、任務終了の帰途どこかで給油しなければならないのである。
