先日、録画しておいたNHKスペシャル「ドラマ東京裁判」の再放送をまとめて見ました。何かの縁なのでしょうか、巣鴨プリズンのあったの池袋にも出かけたし、現在のサンシャインビルは刑務所跡地だったのですね。
重たい内容でしたが、当時のフィルムをカラー化し、被告人たちが裁判で話す姿や音声が再現され、戦勝国から召集された11人の判事を演じた俳優さんたちの演技も迫力がありました。たばこやパイプを吸うシーンも多く見られ、当然のことながら今とは異なり、喫煙は普通のたしなみであったことがわかります。
そして恥ずかしながら、私自身の理解不足や勉強不足も痛感させられました。半数近くの判事が有罪に賛成はしても、死刑には反対してた事実も驚きでした。戦後の歴史について、もっと正確に知る必要性を再認識できました。
