先日、林真理子著『本を読む女』（集英社文庫、2015年6月30日発行）を読み終えました。読み始めには、主人公万亀が「著名な女流作家をモデルにした人物なのかな？」と感じました。
I recently finished reading "The Woman Who Reads Books" by Mariko Hayashi (Shueisha Bunko, published June 30, 2015). At the beginning of the book, I wondered if the main character, Mangame, was "modeled after a well-known female author?" I felt that she was.
しかし、読み終える寸前になって、林真理子さんの実母であることが分かり、心底びっくりさせられました。また、山梨県を舞台とする小説を読んだ記憶がなく、今回、東京と山梨の地理的な関係も含め、すごく身近になった気がします。
たばこも普通の景色として記述されており、次回、詳しく紹介させていただきますが、何よりも良かったのは大正末〜昭和の終戦まで、毎日の生活や風俗が丁寧に描写されていることでした。
私が暮らした田舎の食べ物や風情ともよく似ていました。その中で、味や香りまでよみがえってきたのが、正式には「麦こがし」と呼ばれる「こうせん」でした。私が若い頃、発売と同時に買った『ルンルンを買っておうちに帰ろう』以来、林真理子さんの熟成を思い知らされました。
However, just before I finished reading the book, I found out that she is Mariko Hayashi's own mother, which surprised me deeply. Also, I have no memory of reading a novel set in Yamanashi Prefecture, and this time I felt very familiar with the geographical relationship between Tokyo and Yamanashi.
Cigarettes are also described as a normal scenery, which I will introduce in detail next time, but the best thing was the careful description of daily life and customs from the end of the Taisho era to the end of the Showa era.
It was very similar to the food and customs of the countryside where I lived. Among them, the taste and aroma of "kosen," officially called "barley kogashi," came back to me. I was reminded of Mariko Hayashi's maturity since "Let's Buy a Luncheon and Go Home," which I bought as soon as it was released when I was young.
