The former sovereign seldom made use of ladies-in-waiting after becoming a monk: male attendants, whichever ones happened to be on duty, brought his meals and saw to all his other needs. He never failed to observe the rule of abstinence. The late imperial lady had performed a splendid service by inspiring him to lead such a life. He never neglected to hold daily services in her memory at the Imabayashi Mansion in Saga. (The mansion was the place where the Kitayama Honorary Empress had lived.) He used to strands of her hair to sew Sanskrit letteres; also, for dedication at the Sesshu-in, he copied passages from the Lotus Sutra onto the backs of sheets of paper containing her handwriting, performing a triple obeisance after inscribing each character. Archbishop Kakushu acteｄ as his spiritual guide. In further demonstration of his deep affection, he built a Lotus Hall in the Imabayashi grounds to house her remains, and went there faithfully on the 24th day of each month.
御髪（ぐし）おろして後は、大方（おほかた）女房は仕うまつらず、男、番（ばん）にをりて御台なども参らせ、よろづに仕うまつる。いつも御持斎（ぢさい）にておはします。いとありがたき善知識にてぞ、故女院はおはしける。嵯峨の今林殿（いまばやしどの）にて御法事ども日々に怠らずせさせ給ふ。この今林殿は北山の准后のおはせし跡なり。遊義門院の御髪（ぐし）にて梵字ぬはせ給へり。かの御手のうらに、法華経一字三礼（らい）に書かせ給ひて、摂取院にて供養せらる。覚守僧正御導師。故女院の御骨も、今林に法華堂たてられて、置き奉らせ給へれば、月ごとに廿四日には必ず御幸あり。思（おぼ）し入（い）りたる程、いみじかりき。
