ピッツバーグ大学のサイトにシャルトル大聖堂の写真集があり、その充実ぶりはちょっとした驚異です。
そこに聖女モデスタ像も出ていますね。
---------
Potentian and Modesta
Potentian (haloed, bearded, dressed as a bishop) was a disciple of Peter who, with his comrade Savinian, were sent to convert Gaul to Christianity.
Modesta was the daughter of the Roman governor, Quirinus. She was converted to Christianity, and begged her father to spare the life of Potentian when he was tried by her father. She was martyred, and her body was thrown down the sacred well in the crypt at Chartres.
Kidson argues on stylistic grounds that these two statues were "among the latest and most accomplished of all the large-scale statues at Chartres." (Kidson, Chartres, p. 54)
The story of Savinian, Potentian and Modesta is also shown in a window in the choir
(Deremble-Manhes no. 17, Delaporte window no. 43)
