J.R.R.Tolkien と Malvern Hills

🎍あけましておめでとうございます。🎍

気が付けば2022年。

Malvern Hills と J.R.R.Tolkien の繋がりについて書こうと思いつつ1か月以上が経ってしまいました。　

The Lord of the Rings は、娘に読み聞かせようと購入したのでしたが、気が付けば自分がドップリ💦　

一泊以上家を空ける時には持ち歩く程の愛読書になりました。

ストーリーは分かっていても飽きません。　一例ですが、

"Away high in the East swung Remmirath, the Netted Stars, and slowly above the mists red Borgil rose, glowing like a jewel of fire. Then by some shift of airs all the mist was drawn away like a veil, and there leaned up, as he climbed over the rim of the world, the Swordsman of the Sky, Menelvagor with his shining belt. The Elves all burst into song."

のような文章に惹かれるのです。美しい！

Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty でも書きましたが、今回の滞在先である Malvern が愛読書と関係深いとは知りませんでした。

2022年元日の Malvern Hills

娘達がウォーキングに行ったそうな。

数分で変わる空と雰囲気。

11月初め私が歩いた時はこんなでした。

向こうに見えるのがビーコンの丘。

C.S.LewisとMalvern のガスランプにも書いたのですが，Tolkien は「ナルニア国物語」の作者C.S.Lewisとこの丘を良く歩いたものだそうです。

Tolkienはこの丘を歩く時、The Lord of the Rings の (ゴンドールとローハンにかかる山脈)white mountains になぞらえていたそうです。

Malvern にある変電所のドアをホビットの家のドアにペイント。

地元に住む芸術家が描いたそうです。

歩いていて出会った表札。

ロスロリエンですって♪

初めて本を手に取ってから幾星霜。

あの頃、この場所に来れるとは想像だにしませんでした。　

生きてると何があるか分かりませんが、嬉しいことも沢山あります！！
