「端唄」については英語版のWikipediaに説明されているが、それをそのままコピペするのも能がないし、だいいちそんなに詳しく知りたいというわけでもなさそうなので、簡単な英文を作って返信することにした。こんなもんでどうだろうか。
This music is called 'Edo Hauta'. 'Hauta' means short song. On the other hand, long song is called 'Nagauta'. 'Hauta' was popular at the red-light district in Edo(Old Tokyo) in the late Edo period. 'Hauta' is cool music for Edo people. In many cases, the motif of 'Hauta' is love affair.
