マーティン・デニーと並びエキゾチカ(エキゾチック・サウンド)を代表する存在と呼ばれるレス・バクスター(Les Baxter、1922年3月14日 - 1996年1月15日)のアルバム20作を収録した10枚組CDボックスを購入。某ネットショップ(密林)で2,477円なので、1枚当たり247円という超お買い得盤。デジタル・リマスターとは書かれていないが音質はばっちり楽しめる。しかしながら廉価版にありがちな統一ジャケットでオリジナルアルバムのジャケットもクレジットも掲載されていない。オリジナルLPを再現した紙ジャケまでは必要ないが、小さくてもいいからLPのアートワークを掲載してほしかった。仕方なくDiscogsからジャケットとクレジットを転載した。軽音楽/イージー・リスニングはBGMだからどんなジャケットでも大差ないと思われるかもしれないが、ロックやジャズのように主義主張が希薄な分、ジャケットで聴きたいムードを醸し出す必要がある。音楽マニア以外の人をターゲットに制作された50年代・60年代のムード音楽のアートワークにはレトロでキッチュな魅力がたっぷり溢れている。
レス・バクスターのレコード・ジャケットを眺めながらエキゾチックなムードに浸る敬老の日を過ごしてみてはいかがだろうか。
