メルボルンに赴任中の次男がクリスマスと御正月の休みを利用して

里帰り。暮の一日、近くの店で活き鮑を見かけたと言って

大きな鮑を持ってやって来た。

「水貝」もいいけれど、やはりこの季節はステーキかなあ？

御正月前のプチ贅沢も悪くないなあ。

During the assignment in Melbourne, the second son took advantage of the Christmas and New Year's holidays to return home.

On a winter day, he mentioned seeing live abalones at a nearby store and arrived carrying a large one.

"MIzugai(Shellfish in water)" is good, but perhaps steak is still the best choice during this season, don't you think?

Indulging in a little luxury before the New Year isn't a bad idea either.

下仁田葱

ミセス・マスダのT市に住む友人が「下仁田葱」をドッサリ届けて下さった。

街で見かける物に比べ倍くらいの太さ、立派な葱だ。

焼き葱、鍋料理、そしてポワローヴィネグレット等々、様々に

料理して賞味させて頂こう。楽しみだなあ。

Mrs. Masuda's friend who lives in T City generously sent her a plenty of "Shimonita green onions."

These onions are about twice as thick as those commonly seen in town and are impressive in size.

I look forward to savoring them in various ways, such as grilled onions, hot pot dishes, and perhaps in a Poulet Vinaigrette, among others.

I'm really excited!

忘年会

１２月２４日

 

半世紀以上に亘、大親友のSF夫妻がミスターマスダの「陶」出版のお祝いの会を

兼ねて忘年会を開いてくださった。

神田「砂場」で三時間余り、至福の時を過ごした。

「スガさん、有難う！！」

For over half a century, our dear friends, Suga-san, graciously hosted a year-end party to celebrate the publication of Mr. Masuda's "Sue" (pottery).

We spent over three hours at the "Sunaba" in Kanda, savoring the delightful moments.

"Suga-san, thank you so much!!"

メリークリスマス

青山辺りをブラブラ散策、表参道ヒルズのクリスマスツリーが美しい。

両サイドにリフレクトしてゴージャスな趣である。

ペットボトルの素材を３Dで雪の結晶に形作ったものを

ツリーにしたものだとか。

Wandering around the area near Aoyama, the Christmas tree at Omotesando Hills is beautiful. It exudes a luxurious atmosphere with reflections on both sides.

I heard that the tree is made from PET bottle material shaped into snowflakes in 3D.

紅葉

我家の庭の紅葉。

今年は二週間くらい遅れているようだ。

柔らかな陽射しを浴びてとても美しい。

 

一年中、花に恵まれて過ごせる日々を

御近所の方々も一緒に愛でて下さるのは

我等老夫婦にとって一番の幸である

The colored leaves of the garden of our home.

２ weeks seem to be delayed this year.

The leaves take gentle sunlight and are very beautiful.

It is our happiness that we are  the best for enjoying days to be able to spend being blessed with flowers with neighboring people for an old couple throughout the year.

小さな花々Ⅳ

本格的な寒さに向かう庭、冬の小さな花々が開き始めた。

山茶花。柔らかな冬の光に桃色の花が輝いている。

 

石苔。昔、ミセスが実家から移して以来暫くは良く咲いたが

この頃は、わずかになってしまい淋しい事だ。

 

千両。庭のあちらこちらに群生している。

千両の実、日毎朱色が深まって美しい。

御正月飾りにたっぷり使えそうで嬉しい事だ。

年の瀬に、何軒かのお宅に差し上げるのが年中行事になっている。

In the garden heading towards the true chill of winter, small flowers have begun to bloom.

Sazanka.  The peach-colored flowers are shining in the soft winter light.

 

Stone moss. In the past, it used to bloom well since Mrs. moved it from her parents' house.

These days, however, it has become scarce, which is a lonely thing.

 

Senryō . It grows abundantly all over the garden.

The Senryō fruits deepen in vermilion day by day and become beautiful.

It's delightful that there seems to be plenty to use for New Year decorations.

At the year-end, it has become a custom to give some to several friends.

床屋さんからの贈り物

１２月７日

 

床屋のおやじが牡蠣と柿をもって訪ねて来た。牡蠣と柿は共に彼の故郷広島の名産品である。

月に一度散髪をするという関係だが何となく彼とは気が合っていた。嬉しいプレゼントである。

牡蠣は早速オーストラリア・タスマニアの郷土料理オイスターキルパトリックにして賞味した。

ベーコンのみじん切りとウースターソースで殻焼きした素朴な料理である。

The  barber came to my house, bringing oysters and persimmons with him.

Both the oysters and persimmons were specialties from his hometown, Hiroshima.

We had a monthly routine of getting a haircut, and somehow, we got along well.

It was a delightful gift.

I promptly enjoyed the oysters by preparing them in the Australian Tasmanian local dish, Oyster Kilpatrick.

It's a simple dish that the oysters are grilled with minced bacon and Worcestershire sauce.

ミスターマスダ謹製のフレンチトースト　NYのアッパーマジソンの店より美味い。

Mr. Masuda's homemade French toast is more delicious than the one at the Upper Madison store in NY.
