１９６０年代、黒人男性コーラス・グループ「ドリフターズ」よって歌われてヒット。日本では宝塚歌劇出身の越路吹雪（こしじ ふぶき）の持ち歌となっている。この越路吹雪がなくなったのが、１９８０年１１月７日。

この日は、私は登山のため総武線の電車の中で新聞を見て知った。同時にアメリカの俳優スティーブ・マックイーンも亡くなったのを知った。’６８「ブリット」はレーサーの腕前を持つマックイーンのカー・チェイス振りが印象的で、思い出の映画となっている。
