【読んだ理由】
ひさしぶりのひろさちやさんの著書。

【印象に残った一行】
だから、いいことをして、何か報酬を期待するのではなく、いいことができるそのことを喜べがいいのです。悪いことをしたとき、その悪をしている自分を悲しむ。そして、次に悪いことをしやすくなっていますから、それに気づいて、同じ悪をしないようにする。それが仏教の教える「善因善果、悪因悪果」の法則です。

仏教では、正義という名の魔類を、ー阿修羅ーと呼びます。阿修羅というのは、本来は正義の神であったのですが、自分だけが正義だと思って、他人に対する思いやりがないため、神界から追放されて魔類になった存在です。
正しいことを言うとき、わたしたちはその阿修羅になっています。だから、正しいことは言わないほうがいいのです。
では、正しいことを言わずに私たちは何を言うべきでしょうか？
じつは、何も言わないほうがよいのです。正しいことを言うな、と言えばまちがったことを言え、と受け取られそうですが、それは勘違いです。わたくしたちは何もいう必要はありません。それよりも相手の話を聞いてあげるべきです。
失敗した人、悲しんでいる人たちに向かって、わたしたちは何かを言ってあげたい気持ちになります。しかし、人間の言葉にはトゲがあります。そのトゲでもって相手を傷つける危険が大きいのです。だから、何も言わずに、じっと相手の言葉を聞いてあげる。それが本当の慈悲だと思います。

仏教が教えているのは、わたしたちは、「良い・悪いの物差し「損得のものさし」のほかに、もう一つの---ほとけさまの物差し---を持てということです。
では、「ほとけさまの物差し」とはどういうものでしょうか？それは目盛のない物差しです。換言すれば、わたしたちが人生において遭遇するあらゆることを、---ありがたいこと---と受け取らせていただくのです。

人間の言葉にはトゲがあるを肝に銘じよう、そして阿修羅にならないように。

LAKE BAIKAL LEVEL FALLING「バイカル湖の水位低下 深刻」

The water level of Lake Baikal, one of Russia's World Heritage sites, is dropping to a serious degree. The Russian government is considering issuing a state of emergency in the lake's neighboring regions.
The lake in Siberia is extremely clear and rich in wildlife. It's the world's largest fresh water lake by volume, but the water level is now at the lowest point in 60 years due to lack of rain and other reasons.
Experts believe, early next month, its depth will fall below the minimum permissible level set by the Russian government. They predict the water level will continue to drop at least until April. Natural Resources and Environment Minister Sergei Donskoi said on Wednesday that he is considering declaring a state of emergency in the Republic of Buryatia and Irkutsk Province.
Local people depend on the lake's water, using it for hydroelectric power generation and for drinking. The declining water level could impact the lives of about 70,000 people. Authorities plan to study the possibility of reducing hydroelectric use of the lake water

【書き下し文】
子路(しろ)問う、聞くままに斯(こ)れ行わんや。子曰わく、父兄(ふけい)の在(いま)すこと有り、これを如何(いかん)ぞ、其(そ)れ聞くままに斯れ行わんや。冉有(ぜんゆう)問う、聞くままに斯れ行わんや。子曰わく、聞くままに斯れを行え。公西華(こうせいか)が曰わく、由(ゆう)や問う、聞くままに斯れ行わんやと。子曰わく、父兄の在すこと有りと。求や問う、聞くままに斯れ行わんやと。子曰わく、聞くままに斯れ行なえと。赤(せき)や惑う。敢えて問う。子曰わく、求(きゅう)や退く、故にこれを進む。由や人を兼(か)ぬ、故にこれを退く。

【通釈】
子路(しろ)が尋ねました、
「指示を聞いたらすぐに実行すべきでしょうか?」
孔子は、
「父親や年長者がいるだろう、まず彼らの意見を聞きなさい。」
と答えられました。次に冉有(ぜんゆう)が尋ねました、
「指示を聞いたらすぐに実行すべきでしょうか?」
孔子は、
「すぐに実行しなさい。」
と答えられました。
これを聞いていた公西華(こうせいか)が困惑した様子で、
「二人とも同じ質問をしているのに、先生は別々の答えをなさっています。どうしてでしょうか?」
と尋ねたところ、孔子は、
「冉有は引っ込み思案だからうながしてやった。子路は積極的すぎる面があるから抑制してやったのだ。」
と答えられました。

【English】
Zi Lu asked, "Should I put instructions into practice immediately?" Confucius replied, "You have your father and elders. Why don't you ask their opinion?" Ran You asked, "Should I put instructions into practice immediately?" Confucius replied, "Yes, you should." Gong Xi Hua was puzzled and asked, "They asked the same question. Why did you make different answers?" Confucius replied, "Ran You is passive. So I encouraged him. Zi Lu is aggressive. So I restrained him."

『論語』とは

読んで字の如く「論じ語る」、孔子と弟子達や要人達との間に交された対話録。
『論語』は私たちの生き方の原点を見つめた思索の宝庫であり、人間性を磨く叡智が凝縮した永遠の古典。
読めば読むほど胸に深く沁み込む簡潔な言葉の数々。
『孟子』『大学』『中庸』と併せて儒教における「四書」の一つに数えられる。
全20編（学而第一～堯曰第二十） 構成され、編の名称は各編の最初の二文字を採ったものであり内容上の意味はない。
したがって、学而第一から順に読む必要はなくどこから読んでもかまわない。
