◆著者について◆
1923(大正12)年、大阪市生れ。甲南高等女学校卒。小説家・佐藤紅緑を父に、詩人・サトウハチローを兄に持つ。
1950(昭和25)年「文藝首都」同人となり本格的に創作活動を始める。1969(昭和44)年『戦いすんで日が暮れて』で直木賞、1979(昭和54)年『幸福の絵』で女流文学賞、2000(平成12)年『血脈』の完成により菊池寛賞、2015(平成27)年『晩鐘』で紫式部文学賞を受賞。
ユーモラスなエッセイにもファンが多く2016(平成28)年『九十歳。何がめでたい』が大ベストセラーとなった。2017(平成29)年、旭日小綬章を受章。

COLLEGE ADMISSIONS SCAM ROCKS U.S.アメリカ 名門大学で不正入学

A college admissions bribery scheme is sending shockwaves across the U.S. Celebrities and CEOs are among dozens of wealthy parents charged in the scam. They're accused of trying to fast-track their children into the country's top universities.
U.S. authorities are calling the case the largest college admissions scam ever in the country. They say the parents paid a total of about 25 million dollars for guaranteed admissions.

"This is a case where they flaunted their wealth, sparing no expense to cheat the system so they could set their children up for success with the best education money could buy, literally."

The universities named in the scandal are some of the most elite, including Stanford, Yale, Georgetown, and UCLA.

They allegedly paid a man who runs a college-prep business to secure their children's admissions.

【漢文】
孟氏使陽膚爲士師、問於曾子、曾子曰、上失其道、民散久矣、如得其情、則哀矜而勿喜

【書き下し文】
孟氏(もうし)、陽膚(ようふ)をして士師(しし)たらしむ。曾子(そうし)に問う。曾子曰わく、上(かみ)其の道を失いて、民散ずること久(ひさ)し。如(も)し其の情を得ば、則(すなわ)ち哀矜(あいきょう)して喜ぶこと勿(な)かれ。

【現代語訳】
孟孫氏(もうそんし)が陽膚(ようふ)を司法長官に任命した。
陽膚が曾子(そうし)に(職務について)尋ねました。
曾子は、
「上の者達が道を失い、人々の規範意識が緩んでから随分経っている。だから例え犯罪の情報を得たとしても喜んではならず、むしろ哀れむべきなのだ」と答えられました。

【English】
Meng family appointed Yang Fu as the chief judicial officer. Yang Fu asked Zeng Zi. Zeng Zi replied, "Government has lost the way and the people have been lax for ages. So you should not be pleased but feel sorry for them, even though you caught criminal information."
