European countries are criticizing China's threatened countermeasures against the head of the Czech Senate after he voiced support for Taiwan.
Czech Senate President Milos Vystrcil has been leading a delegation to Taiwan. He met with President Tsai Ing-wen on Thursday.
Earlier this week, China's foreign minister said Vystrcil and the Czech delegates will pay a "heavy price" for the visit.
Beijing claims that democratically ruled Taiwan is its territory under the "one China" principle.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas expressed his frustration over China's reaction.

徒然草 第六十七段

【原文】　　

　賀茂の岩本・橋本は、業平・実方なり。人の常に言ひ粉へ侍れば、一年せりたりしに、老いたる宮司の過ぎしを呼び止とどめて、尋ね侍りしに、「実方は、御手洗に影の映りける所と侍れば、橋本や、なほ水の近ければと覚え侍る。吉水和尚の、
月をめで花を眺しいにしへのやさしき人はこゝにありはら
と詠よみ給ひけるは、岩本の社とこそ承り置き侍れど、己れらよりは、なかなか、御存知などもこそ候はめ」と、いとやうやうしく言ひたりしこそ、いみじく覚おぼえしか。
　今出川院近衛とて、集しふどもにあまた入いりたる人は、若かりける時、常に百首の歌を詠よみて、かの二つの社の御前の水にて書きて、手向けられけり。まことにやんごとなき誉ありて、人の口にある歌多し。作文・詩序など、いみじく書く人なり。

【現代語訳】

　賀茂別雷神社の境内にある岩本社と橋本社は、それぞれ在原業平、藤原実方を祀っているが、参拝する人たちはいつでもちぐはぐになっている。ある年、参拝した際に年を召された神社の職員が横切ったので呼び止めて聞いてみた。「実方は、手を清める水の上に影が映ったという話もありますので、水に近い橋本社の方でしょう。また、慈円僧正が、
月を愛し花を見つめて放心していた昔々の風流人は　今はここに祀られている在原業平
と歌っているので、業平は岩本社の方に祀れていると聞いていますが、私などよりあなたの方がよくご存じでしょう」と、大変親切に教えてくださり、とても好感が持てた。
　今出川院の中宮、嬉子に仕えた近衛という名の女官は、勅撰和歌集に数多くの歌が入選しているが、若かりし頃は、常に百首の短歌を詠み、この二つの神社の清めの水で清書して奉納したそうだ。当時は「天才」と呼ばれ、今でも人々がそらんじる歌が多い。漢詩や、その序文に至るまで、良い文章を書く人であった。

◆鎌倉末期の随筆。吉田兼好著。上下2巻，244段からなる。1317年(文保1)から1331年(元弘1)の間に成立したか。その間，幾つかのまとまった段が少しずつ執筆され，それが編集されて現在見るような形態になったと考えられる。それらを通じて一貫した筋はなく，連歌的ともいうべき配列方法がとられている。形式は《枕草子》を模倣しているが，内容は，作者の見聞談，感想，実用知識，有職の心得など多彩であり，仏教の厭世思想を根底にもち，人生論的色彩を濃くしている。

DRUGMAKERS VOW TO PRIORITIZE VACCINE SAFETYワクチン開発の製薬会社 “安全最優先”宣言

We begin with the latest on the global race to develop an effective vaccine against the coronavirus.
Nine leading drugmakers around the world have issued a joint statement vowing to put safety first as their clinical trials move forward.

The companies include Britain-based AstraZeneca and U.S.-based Pfizer.
The declaration was issued on Tuesday. The companies promise to make the safety and well-being of vaccinated people their top priority.
They say they'll only seek approval or emergency-use authorization after safety and effectiveness are demonstrated through a phase 3 clinical study.

Coronavirus vaccines currently under development haven't yet passed the final phase of clinical trials.
But China and Russia have already authorized the use of some vaccines. And U.S. authorities have suggested they too will approve some vaccines for emergency use.

The race for a vaccine has become highly competitive, as governments see it as a way to boost their own standing.
