Visitors to Thailand's ancient capital of Ayutthaya are able to experience the past, thanks to modern technology. Virtual reality is telling the story of trade relations with Japan in the early 17th century and the village where around 1,500 Japanese lived.
The project was proposed by the Thai-Japanese Association based in Bangkok. Thai Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and other guests from both countries attended a ceremony at a park where the Japanese village was located. Within the area, an app on mobile devices displays virtual reality content, such as the appearance of the village nearly 400 years ago.
The Thai-Japanese Association hopes the project will get people in younger generations interested in the shared history of the nations.
