【漢文】
子曰、唯女子與小人、爲難養也、近之則不孫、遠之則怨。

【書き下し文】
子曰わく、唯(ただ)女子と小人とは養い難しと為す。これを近づくれば則(すなわ)ち不孫(ふそん)なり。これを遠ざくれば則ち怨む。

【現代語訳】
孔子がおっしゃいました、
「女と取るに足らぬ男は扱いにくい。親切にすれば調子に乗るし、親切にしなければ恨まれる」


【English】
Confucius said, "Women and worthless men are hard to deal. If you are kind to them, they will be too frank. If you are not kind to them, they will have a grudge against you."

『論語』とは
読んで字の如く「論じ語る」、孔子と弟子達や要人達との間に交された対話録。
『論語』は私たちの生き方の原点を見つめた思索の宝庫であり、人間性を磨く叡智が凝縮した永遠の古典。
読めば読むほど胸に深く沁み込む簡潔な言葉の数々。
『孟子』『大学』『中庸』と併せて儒教における「四書」の一つに数えられる。
全20編（学而第一～堯曰第二十） 構成され、編の名称は各編の最初の二文字を採ったものであり内容上の意味はない。
したがって、学而第一から順に読む必要はなくどこから読んでもかまわない。

陽貨第十七の二十四

【漢文】
子貢問曰、君子亦有惡乎。子曰、有惡、惡称人之惡者、惡居下流而謗上者、惡勇而無禮者、惡果敢而窒者。曰、賜也亦有惡乎、惡徼以爲知者、惡不孫以爲勇者、惡訐以爲直者。

【書き下し文】
子貢(しこう)問いて曰わく、君子も亦(また)悪(にく)むこと有りや。子曰わく、悪むこと有り。人の悪を称する者を悪む。下(しも)に居て上(かみ)を謗る者を悪む。勇にして礼なき者を悪む。果敢にして窒(ふさ)がる者を悪む。曰わく、賜(し)や亦悪むこと有りや。徼(かす)めて以て知と為す者を悪む。不孫(ふそん)にして以て勇と為す者を悪む。訐(あば)きて以て直と為す者を悪む。

【現代語訳】
子貢(しこう)が尋ねました、
「人の手本たるべき人格者でも他人を憎む事がありますか?」
孔子は、
「ある。人の悪口を言う者を憎む。部下でありながら上司を誹謗する者を憎む。勇気がありながら礼を弁えない者を憎む。決断力がありながら道理を弁えない者を憎む」
と答えられました。そして孔子が、
「お前は他人を憎む事があるかね?」
と聞くと、子貢は、
「他人の知恵を掠め取って自分の知恵にする者を憎みます。傲慢な自分を勇気があると思っている者を憎みます。他人の欠点を暴いて自分が正直だと思っている者を憎みます」
と答えました。


【English】
Zi Gong asked, "Does even a gentleman detest someone?" Confucius said, "Yes, he does. He detests a person who criticizes others, a person who slanders a superior, a courageous person without politeness and a decisive person who has a mind impervious to reason. Zi Gong, do you detest someone?" Zi Gong replied, "I detest a person who plagiarizes others' ideas, a person who thinks his arrogance is courage and a person who thinks he is honest by exposing others' faults."
