前半は一気に読んだが、後半は尻切れトンボの感じが否めない。でも彼女の作品をもう少し読んでみよう。

VIENNA CHRISTMAS MARKETS BRING CHEERウィーン伝統のクリスマスマーケット

People in Vienna are getting into the holiday spirit.
The city's famed Christmas markets opened Saturday when a giant tree in front of the city hall was lit up. The tree was brought from the Salzburg area and is fitted with 2,000 LED lights.

The traditional markets in the Austrian capital date back to around the 14th century. More than 150 shops are offering Christmas decorations, food, and mulled wine.

The markets are open till December 26th. More than 3.5 million visitors are expected.

徒然草 第二十五段

　飛鳥川の淵瀬、常ならぬ世にしあれば、時移り、事去り、楽しび、悲しび行きかひて、はなやかなりしあたりも人住まぬ野らとなり、変らぬ住家は人改まりぬ。桃李もの言はねば、誰とともにか昔を語らん。まして、見ぬ古のやんごとなかりけん跡のみぞ、いとはかなき。

　京極殿・法成寺など見るこそ、志留り、事変じにけるさまはあはれなれ。御堂殿作り磨かせ給ひて、庄園多く寄せられ、我が御族のみ、御門の御後見、世の固めにて、行末までとおぼしおきし時、いかならん世にも、かばかりあせ果てんとはおぼしてんや。大門、金堂など近くまでありしかど、正和の比ころ、南門は焼けぬ。金堂は、その後、倒れ伏したるまゝにて、とり立つるわざもなし。無量寿院ばかりぞ、その形とて残りたる。丈六の仏九体、いと尊くて並びおはします。行成の大納言の額、兼行が書ける扉、なほ鮮かに見ゆるぞあはれなる。法華だうなども、未だ侍るめり。これもまた、いつまでかあらん。かばかりの名残だになき所々は、おのづから、あやしき礎ばかり残るもあれど、さだかに知れる人もなし。

　されば、万に、見ざらん世までを思ひ掟んこそ、はかなかるべけれ。

【現代語訳】
　気ままに流れる飛鳥川は、昨日まで深かった場所が、翌日には浅瀬になっている。人の生きる世界も永遠に今の状態で続くことはない。時は過ぎ、始まりは終わりになり、喜びや悲しみも過ぎ去る。繁華街も整地されて原野となり、古民家の住人も過去に住んだ人とは違う。昔から咲いているのは、桃やスモモの木だけだ。彼らはコミュニケーション能力を持たないから、昔日の繁栄を語り継ぐ術を持たない。だから、見たこともない太古の大遺跡は、あぶくと一緒だ。

　京極殿や法成寺の廃墟を見ると、施工主の願いが叶わず、都市計画の跡形さえないので、心に淋しい風を立てる。藤原道長がデベロッパーとなり、土地を転がし、複合施設を建設してピカピカに磨き上げた。当時は「自分の肉親だけが天皇を食い物にして、いつまでもこんな日が続きますように」と願っていただけに、どんな世界になろうとも、ここまでメチャクチャになるとは想像さえしなかっただろう。寺院の門や、本殿は最近まで残っていたが、花園天皇の時代に南の門が火災にあった。本殿も地震で倒壊し、復旧計画は無い。阿弥陀堂だけは現存しており、五メートル弱の仏像が九体並び「我関せず」と他人事のように安置されている。達筆な藤原行成が書いた額縁や、源兼行が書いた扉の文字が鮮やかに残っている光景は、異様なほど虚しい。仏道修行をする建物もまだ残っているが、そのうち燃えて無くなるだろう。このような伝説さえなく、建物の基礎だけある場所などは、知る人もなく、いかなる物か謎だけが残る。

　この例からも、自分の死後、見ることが不可能な世界のことを思って、何かを計画するのは、森羅万象、無駄であり意味がない。

◆鎌倉末期の随筆。吉田兼好著。上下2巻，244段からなる。1317年(文保1)から1331年(元弘1)の間に成立したか。その間，幾つかのまとまった段が少しずつ執筆され，それが編集されて現在見るような形態になったと考えられる。それらを通じて一貫した筋はなく，連歌的ともいうべき配列方法がとられている。形式は《枕草子》を模倣しているが，内容は，作者の見聞談，感想，実用知識，有職の心得など多彩であり，仏教の厭世思想を根底にもち，人生論的色彩を濃くしている。
