「香具山は 畝火ををしと 耳梨と 相あらそひき 神代より かくにあるらし 古昔も 然にあれこそ うつせみも 嬬を あらそふらしき」

「高山波　雲根火雄男志等　耳梨與　相諍競伎　神代従　如此尒有良之　古昔母　然尒有許曽　虚蝉毛　嬬乎　相挌良思吉」

現代語訳
「香具山は、男らしい畝傍山をめぐり、耳成山と争った。神の時代からこのような争いはあったらしい。 昔もそうなのだから、今の世の人も、恋人をめぐって争いをするのだろう」
