Japanese film company Toho says its hit movies "Shin Godzilla" and "Kimi no na wa" have pulled mid-term earnings into the black. The company had originally forecasted an earnings drop.
Executives put the group operating profit for the March-to-August period at about 235 million dollars. That's up 0.3 percent from the same period last year.
The new Godzilla movie has already grossed about 74 million dollars. The latest in the series starring the iconic monster was released in July. Toho executives said the box-office take for their hit animation "Kimi no na wa," or "Your name.," is about 148 million dollars since its release in August.
Toho has upgraded its operating profit forecast for the year ending in February to about 452 million dollars, a record for the third straight year. Managing Director Nobuyuki Tako said social media posting has boosted the number of repeat customers.
