U.S. television network NBC says it will not broadcast the Golden Globes ceremony next year amid a growing backlash over ethics and a lack of racial diversity.
The network said in a statement on Monday that it believes time is needed for the group that organizes the event, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, to carry out reforms.
The decision comes after it was revealed the association has no Black voting members.
The Golden Globes take place every year in the runup to the Oscars.
Tom Cruise joined the outcry on Monday, returning three trophies, including two for best actor.
The HFPA responded to NBC's announcement in a statement, saying that "transformational change" was an urgent priority.
The association says it hopes to finish its reforms by August, including hiring a new chief executive and adding 20 new members.
