Japanese figure skating sensation Mao Asada is retiring.
The three-time world champion made her Olympic debut in Vancouver in 2010. She nailed her trademark triple axel and won a silver medal.
She went on to finish sixth in the 2014 Sochi Games. One month later, she won the world championships for the third time.
But Asada has struggled this season due to an injury in her left knee.
The 26-year-old announced her decision to retire in her blog. She said she has been discouraged by her recent performances and lost her drive to compete.
The news surprised some fans. But Asada said she has no regrets about her career and wants to move on with a smile.
