A French restaurant in Paris owned by a Japanese chef has been awarded the maximum three Michelin stars. Kei Kobayashi has become the first Japanese-born chef in France to claim the prestigious rating.

"I'm proud to be here in France. I would like to thank you for accepting me as someone from overseas and giving me a place to be."
The 42-year-old Kobayashi moved to France about 20 years ago to train in local restaurants. He opened his own establishment nine years ago, and it won one Michelin star the following year. Three years ago, the restaurant was upgraded to two stars.
Michelin describes Kobayashi's cuisine as "memorable," with a delicate balance of influences from both Japan and France.
