Bit scary. The nearby mountain is actually an active volcano called Vesuvius. Around lunchtime, the ground started shaking and a huge cloud of dust and ash sprouted out of Vesuvius and began raining down on Pompeii. My owners grabbed their valuables and fled. Now it’s just me here under about a metre of ash and dust. Could things get any worse?

なんだか嫌な予感がする。実はさ、近くにベスビオ山っていう活火山があるんだ。お昼頃、ガタガタ揺れ出して、ベスビオ山から灰とちりを含んだでっかい煙がもくもく出てきたと思った瞬間、ポンペイに街に雨がザーザー降り出した。ぼくの所有者は貴重品をつかんで逃げ出した。ぼくは取り残され、1 mの灰とちりに埋もれてしまった。状況はまだひどくなる？

Yes, they could – and did. The next day, hot ash and gases engulfed and destroyed the city. Most people got away, but many also died. About 2,000 years later, archaeologists found me buried under 6 metres of ash and volcanic rock. What’s left of me and the rest of the city now gives you modern-day people an insight into what ancient Roman life was like.

A Day in the Life of a Poo, a Gnu and You, a middle grade title from Buster Books, has won the Blue Peter Award for the Best Book with Facts 2021. This is the second consecutive win for Buster Books, as Rise Up by Amanda Li and Amy Blackwell won the award last year.
バスターブック刊行の中学年向け書籍『うんち、ヌー、きみの人生の1日』（日本語タイトルは未定）が、ブルー・ピーター賞の2021年度の参考図書賞を受賞した。バスターブックは2019年刊行のアマンダ・リ、エイミー・ブラックウェル『ライズ・アップ』も2020年の同賞の同部門の受賞作に選ばれており、社として2年連続の栄誉となる。
The comic-style book is split into three sections; Earth Science, Human Body and Animal Kingdom, and gives young readers the inside story of brains, pimples, farts, porcupines, Japanese knotweed, clouds, clocks, Mars rovers, snowflakes – and lots more. Each element has its own page and is written in the form of a first-person diary, hilariously presented in strip cartoons.
コミックスタイルで書かれた『うんち、ヌー、きみの人生の1日』は地学、人間の体、動物王国の3セクションに分かれていて、若い読者は、脳やにきびやおならや、ヤマアラシやイタドリ、雲や置き時計や火星探査車や雪片ほかの秘密について、学ぶことができる。1ページもしくは見開きページで、楽しいマンガを添えて一人称の日記形式でそれぞれ説明されている。
翻訳書刊行がすごく楽しみになった。
