　本日と明日のGetUpEnglishでは本書の内容をもう少し紹介したい。

　佐藤教授は現在の世界情勢をリアルタイムのニュースを読みながら、さらには図表も効果的に示しながら、詳細に、だが一般読者向けに非常にわかりやすく分析している。

　たとえば、Chapter 1には以下のようなまとめもあるので、大変ありがたい。

　昨年10月に刊行された、佐藤節也東洋大学教授のNew Perspectives on Globalizationをずっと読んでいる。

　日本人の研究者がグローバリズム（世界の一体化）について英語で書き下ろした大変な力作で、英語を書く上で非常に参考になる。

　本日のGetUpEnglishはこの本を紹介しよう。

　帯にはこう記されていて、興味がそそられる。

TRANSCRIBING AN INTERVIEW

　現在、翻訳書の刊行ラッシュがつづいているが、コロナ禍の影響もあって、著者にオンライン・インタビューする機会も増えた。

『ザ・ギャンブラー ハリウッドとラスベガスを作った伝説の大富豪』の著者ウィリアム・Ｃ・レンペルのインタビューも、とても楽しかった。

　インタビューは楽しいのだが、音声をtranscribeするのは意外に大変だ。ビル・レンペルのインタビュー音声も現在活字に起こしているが、その前に10月刊行の本の著者にもインタビューして、原書にも書いていない情報を翻訳書に追加することにした。

　インタビューはできたが、聞き取りがイマイチ自信の持てないこともあり、その場合は信頼できるネイティブにたずねている。

　この本は最後のレオナルド・ダ・ヴィンチの作品と言われ、およそ510億円で2017年にクリスティーズの競売で買い上げられた『サルバトール・ムンディ』に関するあらゆる調査を記したものだが、著者の調査はなお進行中で、それについてもたずね、日本語版に補足したいと思っている。日本語の読者が初めて読める、貴重な情報になると思う。

　本日のGetUpEnglishではその一部をご紹介しよう。

　こんなやりとりがある。

Q: Why do you think Salvator Mundi was not displayed in the Louvre from October 24 in 2019 to February 24 in 2020?  I’m sure many people would like to hear from you about it.

For most of 2019 I thought the Salvator Mundi would be displayed at the Louvre. I mean, after the auction the head of the Louvre said he wanted it and the Louvre let everybody know they’d asked for it several times and they wanted to show it and they asked very politely. It was never really clear whether they’d said, “We want to show it and we promise to put a Leonardo da Vinci label on it,” or whether they’d said, “We want to show it, please. We’d like to show it.” They didn’t really say if they’d attribute it to Leonardo or not. But I just thought—probably these people are going to show it.

『サルバトール・ムンディ』は昨年10月から今年2月にかけてフランスのルーヴル美術館のダ・ヴィンチ没後500周年大回顧展に展示される予定だったが、実現しなかった。

　なぜか？

　本書の日本版にはそのことも盛り込めるはずだ。

　翻訳書は原書刊行から当然時間が経って出版されるが、そのタイムラグを利用して、原書刊行後に起こったこと、起こっていることも盛り込める。

　オンライン・インタビューはなかなか効果的であると最近よく感じる。

著者について

著者 キアラ・ピローディ

イタリアの心理学者。神経心理学における認知発達の心理療法を専門とする。2007年にパヴィア大学で心理学の学位を取得したのち、同大学で生理心理学講義の講師と神経心理学演習の専任講師を務める。

2008年からは自身が訓練を受けたミラノのニグアルダ・カグランダ病院に勤務し、重い精神上の疾患や障害、学習のつまずきをもつ幅広い年齢の子供と接する臨床経験を有する。現在は開業して大人や子供をもつ親、思春期の子供の心理療法に携わる。

また、神経心理学関連の専門書の執筆や共著に多数取り組み、White Star社から「Montessori, a World of Achievements」(未邦訳)と題する著書とカードボックスのシリーズ、0歳児向け絵本「赤ちゃんモンテッソーリ」シリーズ(すばる舎刊)などを出版している。

 本日2014/10/26のGetUpEnglishでは句動詞tip offを学習した。
