2021年10月06日 | 爺英語

People in the U.S. are commemorating the 20th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.Thousands attended memorial ceremonies in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania.
The World Trade Center's twin towers once stood here in lower Manhattan, until hijacked planes destroyed them and thousands of lives.
A ceremony began at 8:40 at the site. Attendees included President Joe Biden and families of the victims.
Six moments of silence were scheduled. These correspond with the times when each of the twin towers was struck, and when they collapsed, as well as the times of the attack on the Pentagon and the plane crash in Pennsylvania.
The attacks killed 2,977 people, including office workers, police officers, and hundreds of New York City firefighters who rushed into the burning towers. The name of each victim was read.
