「～に鍵を掛ける」という動詞lockは、lock A in Bの形で「錠を下ろしてＡ（人）をＢに閉じこめる、幽閉する」の意味をなす。それを受け身の形にすると、「Ｂという固定された立場に置かれていて、そこから出られない」というニュアンスになる。

be no love lost between themで、「お互いにこれっぽっちの愛情もない」。
E-Dicの以下の解説がすばらしい。
「～の間には失われるような愛情はない」「互いに愛を与えるに値する相手ではない」ということ。面白いことに、昔は、No love between them was lost. Each was kind to the other.（二人は愛に包まれていた。互いに相手を思いやっていた）のように、まったく逆の意味で使っていたのである。いずれの場合もlostはwastedの意で、「愛情」に一定の量があると仮定して、「愛を無駄遣いしていない」ということである。昔はそれを「フルに愛を使っている」と解釈していたのだが、いつからか、それが逆転してしまい、「（相手に対して）無駄遣いしていない→まるで使わない」と正反対の意味で用いるようになったのである。I wouldn't say that those two hate each other, but there is certainly no love lost between them.（あの二人が憎み合っているとは言わないが、確かに、互いの間にはこれっぽっちの愛情もないね）の例でも分かるように、積極的に憎み合うというより、冷たい関係にあるという場合に用いる。

This may sound similar to the philosophy behind mainstream Japanese cooking, famous as it is for revering good ingredients, but in fact quite a lot of homestyle Japanese cooking is heavily seasoned, and Japanese cooks go to great lengths to remove “unpleasant” and bitter flavors from their sansai.

ごめんなさい、「僕たち」は地衣だね。

そういうこと。
I say ‘we’ because lichen is a ‘symbiotic’ organism. That means we’re actually several different organisms working together.
どうして「僕たち」かと言えば、地衣はいくつか異なる有機体が合わさって活動しているからだ。
Lichen is part fungi and part algae. We’re a specific type known as reindeer lichen. That's because we're their favourite food.
地衣は菌類と藻類の複合体。僕たちはハナゴケで、トナカイゴケとも呼ばれている。トナカイが僕らを餌にするからだ。
Most lichens grow very slowly - about 1 mm per year. One specimen, called the Arctic ‘map’ lichen, is over 8,600 years old.
地衣は成長するのがすっごく遅い。大体1年に1ミリくらいしか伸びない。北極にチズゴケっていう地衣類の仲間がいるんだけど、確かもう8600歳を超えてるはず。
Lichens come in an incredible range of colours and forms, and can be found worldwide and in lots of different habitats.

One species, the sunburst lichen, even survived 14 days of exposure in space.

lightweight: 薄っぺらい
borderline stupid: 駄作と言っても過言ではない
like hellは死にもの狂いであるが、文頭で使われる場合は、皮肉を込めて、「 (…だなんて)とんでもない, 絶対…しない」（コンパスローズ）」となる。

動詞leverageは覚えておきたい。研究社オンライン・ディクショナリーのEVに「(うまく)活用する, 利用する, (最大限に)生かす, 武器にする」とある。
次のように使われる。

「下手の横好き」は英語で何といえばよいか？
今日のGetUpEnglishはこの表現を考えてみよう。

ここで学習したように、dabblerも使われる。

“Well, your English is perfect!”

辞書には意味が出ているが、実際に使われる用例を見てみないとその単語がどんなふうに使われるかわからないし、翻訳する上でもうまくいかないということがある。
今日のGetUpEnglishはこの例を考えてみよう。
litanyという単語がある。これは教会で使われる言葉なので、辞書を引けば、「連祷《司祭の唱える祈りに会衆が唱和する形式》; [the L-] 祈祷書中の連祷; 一斉に響かせる[繰り返す]声」（リーダーズ）という定義がある。
だが日常的には「くどい話, 枚挙; かなりの数〈of〉」（リーダーズ）の意味で使われることがわかるし、
a litany of complaints 不平不満の数々
という用例も「リーダーズ英和辞典」にある。
最新のニュースにこの言い方が出てきた。
トランプ大統領が異例の演説で「選挙に不正があった」と繰り返しのべて、テレビ各局がが中継を中断し、内容を否定したニュースだ。

このa litany of complaints about "suppression" pollsは「（自分にとって有利な）票を消そうとしているとしつこく繰り返した」という感じだと思うし、状況を整理してそのように訳せばいいだろう。
