Russia is stepping up pressure on Europe and the United States. The Russian ambassador to Denmark has warned the Scandinavian nation over its plan to take part in NATO's missile defense system.
Ambassador Mikhail Vanin said Danish warships would become targets for Russian nuclear missiles if Denmark joins the U.S.-led system. The remark was published on Saturday in a Danish newspaper. Russian President Vladimir Putin revealed earlier this month that his country was ready to put its nuclear arsenal on alert to support last year's annexation of Crimea.
Last August, Denmark announced that at least one naval vessel equipped with high-performance radar will take part in NATO's missile defense system. Danish Foreign Minister Martin Lidegaard said the system is for defensive purposes, and not for targeting Russia.
