徒然草 第百五十六段

【原文】　
大臣の大饗は、さるべき所を申し請けて行ふ、常の事なり。宇治左大臣殿は、東三条殿にて行はる。内裏にてありけるを、申されけるによりて、他所へ行幸がうありけり。させる事の寄せなけれども、女院の御所など借り申す、故実なりとぞ。 

【現代語訳】　　
大臣昇進のお披露目は、しかるべき会場を用意して開催するのが通例である。頼長左大臣は東三条殿で行った。近衛天皇の皇居だが、会場に申請されたので、天皇は他へ避難した。親しい間柄でなくても、皇室の女性の住まいを借り上げるのが、古来の習わしである。

◆鎌倉末期の随筆。吉田兼好著。上下2巻，244段からなる。1317年(文保1)から1331年(元弘1)の間に成立したか。その間，幾つかのまとまった段が少しずつ執筆され，それが編集されて現在見るような形態になったと考えられる。それらを通じて一貫した筋はなく，連歌的ともいうべき配列方法がとられている。形式は《枕草子》を模倣しているが，内容は，作者の見聞談，感想，実用知識，有職の心得など多彩であり，仏教の厭世思想を根底にもち，人生論的色彩を濃くしている。
