　本の選び方について、とてもいいことが書かれていた。

　本日のGetUpEnglishはその一節を紹介しよう。

I realise the way I’ve phrased this assumes you’ll be buying your books on Amazon – another nail in the coffin for bookshops. Actually, bookshops have one huge advantage over online behemoths, and it’s that they don’t stock every book in the world. They only have so much shelf space, so they only have the good ones – books chosen by people with expertise and taste.

　I particularly like the taste of the people who work in Daunt Books and Waterstones is really good these days too. Unfortunately, I’ve barely left the flat in the past four years – I’ve been writing this book – so it’s been online shopping or nothing.

　これを書きながら、アマゾンでの購入を考えていることに気づいた。アマゾンが出てきて以来、多くの書店が閉店に追い込まれている。

　だが、リアル書店にはどこの巨大なオンライン書店にもできないことがひとつある。それは、リアル書店は世界中のすべての本を取りそろえられないことだ。スペースが限られているから、専門知識とセンスを備えた書店員が厳選する良質の本しか置けない。

　わたしは特にドーント書店とウォーターストーン書店の店員の好みが好きだ。

　残念ながらここ四年ほどあまり外に出ず（この本を書いていたこともある）、もっぱらオンラインでほとんど済ませてしまっているが。

　イギリスのドーント書店やウォーターストーン書店に行ってみたいし、この著者にもぜひ会ってみたい。
