顔淵第十二の五

【漢文】
司馬牛憂曰、人皆有兄弟、我獨亡、子夏曰、商聞之矣、死生有命、富貴在天、君子敬而無失、與人恭而有禮、四海之内、皆爲兄弟也、君子何患乎無兄弟也。

【書き下し文】
司馬牛(しばぎゅう)、憂(う)れえて曰わく、人皆兄弟あり、我独(ひと)り亡(な)し。商(しょう)これを聞く、死生(しせい)命(めい)あり、富貴(ふうき)天に在り。君子は敬して失(しつ)なく、人と恭々(うやうや)しくして礼あらば、四海の内は皆兄弟たり。君子何ぞ兄弟なきを患(うれ)えんや。

【通釈】
司馬牛(しばぎゅう)が嘆いて言った。
「みんなは兄弟と仲良くやっているのに、私だけが兄弟が居ないかの様だ。」
すると子夏(しか)が、
「私は生きるも死ぬも、富も尊きも全ては天命だと聞いております。もし人格者たるべき者が他者を敬って落ち度が無く、恭しく振舞って礼に違うことがなければ、この世の全てが彼の兄弟と言えます。どうして兄弟が居ないと嘆く必要がありましょうか。」
と言いました

【English】
Si Ma Niu sighed, "Everyone has their good brothers. But only I don't have any good brother." Zi Xia said, "I heard that death, life, riches and nobility are ordained by Heaven's will. If a gentleman respects others without mistakes and behaves humbly and politely, all the people are his brothers. Why do you have a reason to sigh over your brother?"

『論語』とは

読んで字の如く「論じ語る」、孔子と弟子達や要人達との間に交された対話録。
『論語』は私たちの生き方の原点を見つめた思索の宝庫であり、人間性を磨く叡智が凝縮した永遠の古典。
読めば読むほど胸に深く沁み込む簡潔な言葉の数々。
『孟子』『大学』『中庸』と併せて儒教における「四書」の一つに数えられる。
全20編（学而第一～堯曰第二十） 構成され、編の名称は各編の最初の二文字を採ったものであり内容上の意味はない。
したがって、学而第一から順に読む必要はなくどこから読んでもかまわない。

88年『異人たちとの夏』で山本周五郎賞受賞。

【読んだ理由】
好きな作家のおひとり。

【印象に残った一行】
亡くなるとみんな集まって、死者のいい思い出を語り合う。当然である。死んだ人は反論できないのだから悪口をいってはいけない。とりわけ弔辞などはいいことずくめになってしまう。中には死んだのをいいことを勝手ないい人に仕立てて、ちょっと蹂躙しているんじゃないかと感じる時もある。リアルな悪口が欲しくなる。そうじゃないと、誰も死者の本当の姿など関心がないようになってしまう。口先の賛辞より情のある悪口の方がましなこともあるにちがいない。

【コメント】
「ふぞろいの林檎たち」は良かったですね。1983年だ。「岸辺のアルバム」は1977年、5年も前だったのか。

MYANMAR HEALTH EXHIBITION ミャンマーで“日本の長寿”売り込み

Japanese firms are showcasing health-related goods and services at an exhibition in Myanmar. The three-day fair organized by the Japan External Trade Organization began in the country's largest city, Yangon.
Close to 90 Japanese companies are featuring their latest healthcare products and services. Many are designed for hospital use, nursing care, personal beauty and sports. Locals crowded into the exhibition on the first day to see demonstrations of blood pressure monitors and other devices.

"I hope Japanese companies can help local residents in terms of health and longevity."

The average life span of people in Myanmar is around 65, the shortest in Southeast Asia. Medical care is still developing, but people there are becoming increasingly health-conscious as the economy gathers steam.
