ME,TOO; ME, NEITHER

　今日はMe, tooとMe, neitherの似たような表現を紹介するが、両者の違いは、普通はMe,tooが「人も……である」と肯定的に使われるのに対し、Me, neitherは「自分は……でない」と否定的な意味合いで使われる、ということだろう。しかし、Me, tooは実は否定的な意味でも使われることがある。まず、Me, tooとMe, neitherの普通の使い方を紹介する。

　"I'm really excited about our trip next week to Okinawa."

　"Me, too. I've always wanted to go there." 　

　「来週の沖縄旅行がすごく楽しみ」　

　「わたしも。沖縄にはずっと行きたかった」

　"I don't like the way Prof. Akiyama is always telling us to study, study, study."

　"Me, neither. If his lectures were more interesting, maybe we would study more."

　「秋山先生は、いつもぼくらに、勉強しなさい、勉強しなさい、勉強しなさいって言うんだけど、あれはいやだな」

　「わたしもあれはいや。先生の講義がもっと面白ければ、わたしたちももっと勉強するのに」

　この場合のMe, tooは、"Me, too; I don't like it either."を短くした言い方になる。
