　今年も翻訳者としてはもちろん、本業の語学編集者としても精力的に活動したいと思っています。

　2024年元旦のGetUpEnglishは生成AIの英語について書いてみる。

　生成AIの普及により、英語学習も大きく変わった

　便利なものはどんどん使えばいいし、それによってさらに効果的な英語学習が期待できる。

　わたしもChatGPTを毎日使って英語学習に励んでいる。

　特に英文ライティング力は驚かされるが、少し長いものであれば、やはり生成AIによるものだとわかる。

　たとえば、千葉県君津市の濃溝の滝と亀岩の洞窟の写真（添付した）をChatGPTに英語で描写するように求めたところ、次のような英語を送ってくれた。

　内容や単語の選び方などは巧みであるが、赤にしたところに注目いただきたいが、生成AI（ChatGPTに限ったことかもしれないが）は以下の傾向がある。

　１　文章を不自然に長くしてしまう。

　２　その際に分詞構文を多用する。

　よって、当然のことながら、人間が英語を調整しなければならない。英語を母語としない者は英語便（https://www.eigobin.com/）などのネイティブ添削を受ける必要がある。

　以上のことに特に注意して、次のように調整してみた。

　生成AIは便利だ。使いこなすことで、英文ライティングも日英翻訳も（そして英和翻訳も）一段と質の高いものができるはずだ。ただ、AIはあくまでツールであり、われわれ人間が使いこなすものだ。

　われわれがAIを使いこなし、AI以上にすぐれた英文を書き、すぐれた翻訳を作り上げることができるのだ。We can master AI, write English more effectively than AI, and produce superior translations.

　最初に述べたが、2024年は編集者として、AIをツールとして完全に使いこなす英文ライティング・マニュアルを企画、編集、出版したい。
