GREY

　grey（灰色）のものは、「どっちつかずの、中間の」ということ。よくよく grey area　（gray areaとも書く）と言うが、これは「(状況・問題点・色合いなどの)あいまいな［どちらともとれる］部分」「 はっきりしない状況」を示す。

○Practical Example

　"Should a vinaigrette dressing be made with lemon juice or vinegar?"

　"Well, Claude, it's a grey area. I prefer lemon juice, but many other people don't." 　

　「ヴィネグレット・ドレッシングは、レモン・ジュースで作る？　それともヴィネガー？」　

　「クロード、どっちとも言えないね。わたしはレモン・ジュースで作るのがいいわ。でも、ほかの人たちは、それじゃないほうが多いみたい」

●Extra Point

　「あいまいな、はっきりしない」のgreyの反意語は、black and white（善か悪かで、白か黒かで［判断する］）
