HOME RUN

　交流戦で盛り上がるプロ野球。GetUpEnglishでは、本日から3日間、野球に関する英語を紹介します。　

　まずは、野球のいちばん盛り上がるのは、「ホームラン」。

　今日はhome runの使い方を学習します。

○Practical Example

　"Matsunaka came through with a home run in the bottom of the eighth inning."

　"Great! We can always count on him." 　

　「松中が期待に応えて8回裏にホームランを打った」　

　「すごい！　いつも頼りになる！」 　

　to come throughは、この場合は、「期待に応える、頼りになる」。

●Extra Point 　

　「同点ホームラン」はa game-tying homer, 「満塁ホームラン」はfour-run homerという。

◎Extra Example

　"The Tigers were losing badly, but Kanemoto's four-run homer in the seventh inning suddenly turned the tide."

　"Good! I knew Aniki would help us!" 　

　「タイガースはかなり劣勢だったが、金本が7回に満塁ホームランで、一気に形勢を逆転した」　

　「よし！　アニキはやっぱり頼りになる！」 　

　to turn the tideは、「形勢を逆転させる、流れを変える」。
