TO MAKE A NOTE

　現在、ゲラ校正１点、編集者から戻された提出原稿の整理を２点しながら（どれもとてもやりがいを感じる）、1点急いで翻訳を進めているのが、Disney社刊行のマーベル・オリジナルのスパイダーマンの小説だ。

　この生き生きとした非常に魅力的な小説に、次の描写がある。

The muffled voice of the train announcer comes through—36th Avenue. Ten minutes later, he’s suited up and jumping over rooftops in Astoria. He passes over an arepa restaurant, and when his stomach growls, he makes a note to double back if it’s not too late—but he doesn’t have time for it now. Finally, he turns the corner, and the neon-pink-lined letters of the Museum of the Moving Image come into view.
　くぐもった電車のアナウンスが聞こえてくる。「36番街」
ピーターは10分後にはスパイダースーツを着て、アストリアの街の建物の上を跳び回っている。アレパ（ラテンアメリカのとうもろこしパン）を出すレストランを通り過ぎる時にお腹がぐうと鳴って、今は時間はないけど、やることを終えてあんまり遅くなければここに戻ってこよう、と心に決める。

　今日と明日のGetUpEnglishはここにある英語表現で覚えておきたいものを紹介する。
　本日のGetUpEnglishはmake a noteを学習する。
　makes a noteは「～を書き留める」だが、状況によっては「～を心に留める、覚えておく」の意味でも使われる。

実際にメモを取る場合は次のように使われる。

"I need to make a note of the meeting time for tomorrow."
「明日の会議の時間をメモしておく必要がある」

●Practical Point
　頭の中で覚えておく、記憶にとどめる時には次のように使われる。

"Make a note to call Mom after work."
「仕事が終わったらお母さんに電話するのを忘れないようにしよう」

"Make a note that the museum is closed on Mondays."
「博物館は月曜日は閉館日だって覚えておいてね」

"Make a note to bring an umbrella tomorrow; it’s going to rain."
「明日は雨が降るから、傘を持っていくのを忘れないようにね」
