　英語を読んでいると、やっぱり勉強になる。

　今日のGetUpEnglishも、2023/02/25のGetUpEnglishにつづいて、この本から紹介しよう。

In 1982 Epcot opened and represented a major departure from the Magic Kingdom-style Parks—not only in theme and design, but in the practical use and need of attraction posters.

　“There is less of a transportation departure-point feel to secondary Parks,” says Mike Jusko, Walt Disney Imagineering principal art archivist. “The transportation theme is evident at the Magic Kingdom Parks because of the train station. Like advertisements or schedules at airports or subways, the attraction posters in the tunnels reflect the things you can do and places you can go. The entry sequence doesn’t really play out this way in our other Parks.”

　1982年、フロリダのウォルト・ディズニー・ワールドに、ほかのパークとは大きく趣の異なるエプコットがオープンした。この新しいタイプのパーク誕生にあわせて、テーマやデザインだけでなく、用途や目的も大きく異なるポスター制作が進められることになった。

「ウォルト・ディズニー・ワールドではここから何かに乗って周辺のパークに移動するという感覚があまりないんだ」とWDIのアート・アーカイヴ担当者マイク・ジャスコは言う。「汽車の駅があちこちにあるから、どこでも好きな場所でそれに飛び乗り、自由に園内を移動するんだ。空港や地下鉄の広告や時刻表のように、みんなトンネル内に貼られたアトラクションのポスターを見て、自分が何をしたいか、どこに行きたいか確認するんだよ。ウォルト・ディズニー・ワールドのほかのパークの入口に同じポスターを貼っても、こんなにうまくいかないだろうね」

　In 1982 Epcot opened and represented a major departure from the Magic Kingdom-style Parks—not only in theme and design, but in the practical use and need of attraction posters.: 「1982年、フロリダのウォルト・ディズニー・ワールドにエプコットが開園した、これは園内のほかのパークから主要な旅立ちを表した、テーマやデザインだけでなく、ポスター制作の用途や目的もポスター制作も主要な旅立ち」ということであるが、これではまるで日本語になっていないので、意味をよく読み込んで調整する必要がある。

　departureの意味をしっかり理解しないといけない。この場合のdepartureは、「(方法･方針などの)新発展」（「新英和大」）だ。

　OALDの以下の定義と用例を参照。

　an action that is different from what is usual or expected

• Their latest single represents a new departure for the band.

　“There is less of a transportation departure-point feel to secondary Parks,”: 周りの各パークにここから出発して移動するという感覚がほとんどない。ここが始発で、ここが終点という感覚ではなく、汽車の駅はたくさんあるから、どこでも好きな場所から来た汽車に乗って移動する、という感覚。
