TEMPER

　temper（「短気、かんしゃく」「怒り、立腹」「気質、気性」「気分、機嫌」）はラテン語源の単語で、temperatureはこの語から派生した。Someone who "has a temper"で、その人は「堪忍袋の緒が切れる、怒り出す」となる。

　"Watch out for Mr. Fujimoto. He has a real temper."

　"I know. He shouted at me recently for no reason at all."

　「藤本さんには気をつけて。大変な癇癪持ちよ」

　「わかってるわ。わたしも最近まったく何もしてないのに怒鳴られた」

●Extra Point

　to lose one's temperも同じ意味でもよく使われる。

　"Mr. Fujimoto loses his temper at the drop of a hat."

　"I know. He yelled at me recently for no reason at all." 　

　「藤本さんは、すぐに怒る」　

　「わかってる。わたしも最近まったく何もしてないのに怒鳴りつけられた」　

　at the drop of a hatは、「すぐに、すぐさま、たちまち、だしぬけに」あるいは「ちょっとしたきっかけで」。
