TO BUOY UP

　buoyは「ブイ、浮標」。海水浴場に浮いているブイである。　

　そしてこれは動詞としても「……を浮かす」の意味で使われる。　

　今日のGetUpEnglishは、この表現を学習しよう。　

　buoy upで、「……を元気づける、励ます」の意味で使われる。

　"Yayoi is seriously depressed."

　"I know. We have to buoy her up in any way we can."

　「弥生は相当落ち込んでる」

　「ああ、何とかして元気づけてあげなくちゃ」

　Eric Claptonの自伝Clapton: The Autobiography に、次のフレーズがあった。

　あきらめかけていたPattie Boydとの関係に、少し光が見えてきたくだりである。
