It's the most exciting experience in Sri Lanka. Batik!
初めに一枚の真っ白な布を渡された。それで「あなたが好きなものを何でもいいから描いて！」と言われた。
何か見本があってするのかと思ったらそう言われたので、考えた。エナのうちの前にある池が気に入っているのでそれをモチーフにして描く事にした。細かい花の形など忘れたので見に行ったりして。
At first,chief of Batik sisiters Nanda gave me a sheet of cloth and said"Let's draw whatever you want!"
I expected to use one of their design but I tried to find nice mothif.
Then I found. I love a pond in front of Ena's house. I went there and check the shape of the flower an so on,
あの池には蓮が咲いていて葉も浮かんでいて、特別な白い花も咲いている。金魚がいてかわいいカエル達がいて、それと同時におたまじゃくしもいる。それも脚の生えたのとか生えてないのとか。常夏の国だからそうなんだと思う。
それが象徴的でとても好き。それに蓮の咲いている池ってお釈迦様が生まれた所だから神聖な感じもする。
It has water lily and the leaves, special white flowers too. Some golden fish are there, frogs and tadpoles together. It means here is tropical always comfortable warm climate. And a pond with waterlily means a place the Budda was born. So the holy atomosphere is nice too.
ペンで描いてそれから特別な道具を使って線を描く。
これが難しい。
I drow ir down on the cloth and put melted candle wih a special tool.
This is difficult.
姉さん達の仕事ぶりを見ながら頑張るんだけど、どうしても始めの一歩が変になる。
姉さん達の仕事ぶりは優雅だ。惚れ惚れするほど。こんなに細かい複雑な線も軽々淡々と描いている。
To see the elder sisiters, it lookes easier.Their way to do it is so sophisticated.
それでしばらくしたら見かねて良い方法を教えてくれた。それでなんとか出来るようになった。
もうここしばらくこんなに集中したことないほど集中したし緊張もした、そして頑張った。もう何も見えないし聞こえないし必死とはこの事だ。で、二日目にようやく線が描けた。
線描きの拙さは別として、皆かわるがわるやってきてデザインを褒めている。
随分褒めるので不思議だと思っていたらエナが言った。「ここではフリーハンドでそうやってデザインを描ける人はいないんだよ。あんたはすごい才能があるよ！」だって。
…えーっ？だって好きな絵描けって言ったじゃん。みんなそうしてるんだと思って描いた。こっちがびっくりだ。
I had problem every beginning of the line. One sister sugested me about it and I learned.It became much easier.
I did it so concentrated,I couldn't listen and saw anything at the time.
Every sisiters came and said the design is very nice. I didn't know but Ena said afterwards not everyone can draw like this with freehand. Oh! I didn't know it. I thought everyone do it because she said to do it for me.
線が描けたら筆でロウを塗っていく。これも細かい所から注意しながら。慣れてきたのもあってこれが楽しい。だんだん他を見たり聞いたりする余裕が出てきた。
After I finished drawing the line I started to paint with brush.
At the time I used to do better and could listen and watch more than before.
もちろんシンハラ語はわからないので話はわからないけど、その響きを聞いていた。姉さん達はあまり無駄話はしない。あくまで仕事。プロです。
I couldn't understand Shinhara but I listend the harmony. The sisters don7t talk too much. They are professional.
ずっとラジオが鳴っている。懐かしい「ラジカセ」だ。それもパナソニックの。
日本製の電化製品。丈夫で長持ち。性能がいいです。
外国に来たらそれがすごくわかる。みんなすごくあこがれてる、日本の製造技術に。物作りの力って大きいと思う。日本にいてたら便利な電化製品に恵まれすぎていてわからないけど。車だってそう。日本の車を持つことはステイタスらしい。
日本って本当にすごいよ！
物作りの力がとびきりすばらしい私たち日本人が、物作りを他の国の人にどんどんゆだねている現状って本当は勿体ない。この前の遷都1300年祭でもわかったけど、日本の国の始まりに大陸から渡ってきた人たちって熟練した有能な手仕事職人ばかりだった。その子孫が私たち。だから遺伝的にも物作りに優れているのです。それを放棄するなんて勿体ない。私は思っています。これは本当に私たちの宝ですよ。
I found a radio player. It's from Japan Panasonic. I was so proud to see it.
Our electric product is famous all over the world, it's amazing. We cannot see in Japan because we have so many of them around us.
They know the quality very well. We shold know more about we have nice skill to make it and can proud of it more. So many factory are moved to other country now and it's a sad story for me to loose the chance to make them by ourselves. We shoudn't loose the skill to product. I think.
話をラジオに戻すと、ラジオでトークと音楽と宣伝とニュース。世界中いっしょ。
音楽が興味深い。なんか日本の演歌に限りなく近いんです。リズムとか発声とか。
それをずっと聞きながら作業を毎日しました。演歌とジャングルとバティックの日々。時々甘い紅茶。幸せ。
I could listen to radio all the time there. It's talking, music, advertisement and news as all over the world.The popular music is very similar to Japanese traditional one, the tone and rithm.
Everyday I did Batik in this situation, music, tropical forest, sometime sweet tea. I was happy there!
